Unverified Species

Nico encountered several animals during the documented period that were unusually still, oddly textured and completely unwilling to smell like a normal dog.

The Archive can now confirm that at least some of these witnesses were carved from wood or stone. Nico’s willingness to pose beside them remains unexplained.

No interspecies agreement was reached.

Ground-Contact Research

Grass and sand repeatedly triggered the same response: drop, roll, invert, continue until the surface has been tested with an unreasonable percentage of the body.

The research programme produced no written findings. It did produce several photographs of Nico upside down with all four legs pointing in directions that do not suggest dignity.

The work appears to have been personally rewarding.

The Masking Incident

At some point a soft purple sleep mask shaped like a cat was placed over Nico’s face. The object itself has eyes. Nico, temporarily, does not.

There is no sensible institutional explanation for this photograph, which is precisely why it belongs here.

The subject was later restored to normal visibility.
